DATE   : January 27, 2004
SUBJECT: Virginia House Bill 158
TO     : All naturists

Dear Naturist,

A subcommittee of the Virginia House of Delegates has once again scheduled a public hearing on House Bill 158, a bill that would forbid nude youth camps of the type operated by the American Association for Nude Recreation (AANR). A previous attempt at holding the hearing was scrubbed at the last minute.

Testimony on HB 158 will be given this coming Thursday, January 29, 2004, before Subcommittee #3 (Alcoholic Beverage Control & Gaming Subcommittee) of the House Committee on General Laws.

The exact starting time for the hearing is impossible to anticipate, since it has been made dependent on other business facing members of the Virginia House. The full committee will commence a half hour after the end of Thursday's session on the House floor. The subcommittee will meet immediately upon adjournment of the meeting of the full committee.

The location for both the committee and subcommittee meetings is House Room C of the General Assembly Building at the State Capitol complex in Richmond.

WHAT IS NAC DOING?

The Naturist Action Committee and naturists will be represented at the subcommittee hearing by Jonathan Shopiro, the NAC board member responsible for Virginia.

WHAT SHOULD I BE DOING?

This is an Advisory. The Naturist Action Committee is not asking you to take specific action at this time.

Despite what you may have been told by other sources, NAC is still requesting that you DO NOT CONTACT VIRGINIA LAWMAKERS ON THIS ISSUE AT THE PRESENT TIME. The hearing on Thursday has a degree of importance, but it's really just a warmup for a potentially tougher fight. NAC has chosen to hold the full strength of a grassroots response for a more appropriate time.

You are, of course, welcome and encouraged to attend the hearing on Thursday. You may certainly speak there if you wish, but there should already be an adequate number of speakers representing naturists and nudists, since in addition to NAC, AANR and AANR East will also be sending representatives.

Please continue to watch for NAC Action Alerts, Advisories and Updates on this and other important issues.
