DATE : April 13, 2002
SUBJECT: Fort De Soto Park, Pinellas County, Florida
TO : All naturists

Tampa Area Naturists (TAN) has developed a proposal to set aside a portion of Fort De Soto County Park for clothing-optional use. The Naturist Action Committee urges you to support this effort by attending the meeting at which the proposal is presented, by contacting county officials - or both.

TAN will present its proposal to the Pinellas County Park Board on Thursday, April 18, 2002, at 9:30 a.m. The meeting will be held in the Pinellas Room of Heritage Village, located at 11909 125th Street North, Largo, Florida.

The Naturist Action Committee strongly encourages naturists to attend this important meeting in support of the TAN proposal.

The time allotted to this topic will be very limited, and TAN's presenters have asked that supporters NOT request to speak, since time given to other speakers will further limit the opportunity they have to make their full presentation to the Park Board. However, both TAN and NAC agree that a strong turnout will send a powerful message of interest and support.

We expect that the proposal will draw detractors who may also be in attendance. Arrive early for best choice of seating. NAC recommends that supporters of the proposal do NOT cluster together. Instead, it's a better idea to disperse yourselves throughout the area designated for spectators.

For a map, directions, and more information, visit the web site of the Naturist Action Committee: Click on "Local Issues" and then select FLORIDA, Fort De Soto Park.

The Naturist Action Committee encourages naturists to contact county officials in support of TAN's proposal, regardless of where you live. In some situations involving naturist issues, NAC requests that contacts be made only by residents of the affected area. That's NOT the case here. From the county's point of view, part of the attractiveness of a clothing-optional beach is its ability to draw tourists from outside the immediate area.

WRITE: Keep your remarks brief and polite. Say very clearly that you support the proposal for a clothing-optional area at Fort De Soto Park. If you are a Pinellas County resident, please say so. If you are from outside Pinellas County, explain that a clothing-optional area at Fort De Soto Park will draw you to visit Pinellas County, spending time and money there. If you and your family enjoy nude beaches together, be sure to mention that.

Sign your letter, fax or e-mail. Unsigned correspondence is often simply discarded.

CALL: Keep your remarks brief and polite. If you are communicating by phone, give your name. Anonymous calls are discounted. Callers to a county commissioner may find that the commissioner is out. Ask to speak to an aide. Give your information to the aide, who will report it to the commissioner. Do not expect return calls from commissioners.

Be sure to say specifically that you SUPPORT the proposal for a clothing-optional area at Fort De Soto Park.
