DATE   : June 03, 2004
SUBJECT: Ashland, Oregon
TO     : All naturists

Dear Naturist,

Here's an update from the Naturist Action Committee on the anti-nudity ordinance that has been proposed for consideration by the city council of Ashland, Oregon.

The city council meets every two weeks in regular session. Each meeting is limited to a duration of two hours. The council met on June 1, 2004, and for the second meeting in a row, council members allowed time to expire without voting on the ordinance. Limited testimony was heard, including that of recently appointed Ashland police chief Mike Bianca, who originated the proposed ordinance and who spoke in favor of it.

During the meeting, several members of the city council remarked that they had received e-mails opposing the ordinance. Mayor Alan DeBoer read one such correspondence into the official record in its entirety. Those contacts have undoubtedly contributed to the reluctance of the council to approve the proposed ordinance. The Naturist Action Committee sincerely thanks all the Oregon residents who have contacted members of the Ashland City Council. The issue is not yet settled, but you have already made a big difference!

It seems likely at this time that the measure will be carried over and will appear on the agenda of the Ashland City Council meeting scheduled for June 15, 2004.

IT'S NOT TOO LATE FOR OREGON RESIDENTS TO ACT

In the NAC Action Alert of May 29, 2004, the Naturist Action Committee requested that concerned residents of Oregon contact the members of the Ashland City Council. The entire matter is still very much open. If you are an Oregon resident and have not yet contacted the members of the council, NAC urges you to do so now.

Complete contact information is included in the NAC Action Alert of May 29, 2004, which is available on the NAC web site (see below).

At the present time, NAC is not asking for contacts with city lawmakers from those living outside Oregon.
