This is an Action Alert from the Naturist Action Committee (NAC) in collaboration with Tampa Bay Free Beaches (TBFB)
Background
TBFB has been working for several years to open a County-approved, family-friendly, clothing optional beach on the west coast of Florida. They are specifically focusing on East Beach in Ft DeSoto Park, Pinellas County. Over the past few years, groundwork has included ongoing conversations with the County Commissioners and Sheriff.
TBFB is an active member of the local Chamber of Commerce and have become involved with Visit St Pete-Clearwater. The initiative is approaching the stage where an official vote will be sought. Discussions with some officials indicate interest in the concept and business model, although some remain undecided and may need additional information or encouragement. Steps are being taken to address stakeholder’s concerns.
An important consideration has been the potential increase in domestic and international tourism and the resulting economic benefits for local businesses. Assistance is requested with distributing letter templates and Commissioner contact information to the international market, as Pinellas County aims to enhance its reputation as an international destination. A significant volume of letters from international tourists would support this objective.
Call to Action
Now is the time to show your support for Tampa Bay Free Beaches by emailing or writing to the Pinellas County Commissioners to show you stand behind TBFB and their mission to create a family-friendly, family-centric safe and legal clothing optional recreational opportunity at East Beach at Ft. De Soto County Park.
They may soon be making their critical vote on the matter which will determine if Tampa Bay Free Beaches’ hard work comes to fruition. It is imperative we flood their offices with as many favorable letters of support as possible – be they from political constituents, Pinellas County residents, other Florida residents, out of state tourists or even international visitors who would like to visit the area.
Below you will find contact information for all seven of the Pinellas County Board of Commissioners. Use whichever communication mechanism (email, postal, or link directly to their communication portal), you are most comfortable with, but we ask you to contact all Commissioners, if you can, to express your support for TBFB and their mission. You will also find attached suggested letters of support, in both short and longer format, addressing areas of critical concern and reinforcing positive benefits for the creation of a clothing-optional beach in Pinellas County. Please use these as the basis to create your own individualized letters of support to the County Commissioners.
Send your letters of support to the Commissioners no later than October 31st, 2025. The following link provides access to contact all members of the Pinellas County Board of Commissioners:
Suggested Talking Points for Your Comments
In addition to contact information of the officials who will be making this decision, you will also find some letter templates.
They are there for ideas; do not feel like you must use them verbatim. Feel free to write your own. Points to include might be:
- Having a clothing-optional beach in Pinellas County would draw visitors from overseas. This would increase dollars going into the community and businesses.
- We would enjoy a Family-Centric, Family Friendly Clothing-optional Beach.
- We have never had any issues with multi-generational naturists being on the beach or other family friendly, family-centric naturist venues at the same time.
- Having a clothing-optional beach in Pinellas County would help reinforce it as an International Tourist Destination.
- Your Participation is Important and Appreciated. Please email TBFB a copy of your correspondence separately. TBFB needs you, and now is the time you can show that you support Tampa Bay Free Beaches!
